Anglo-Saxon zoomorphic buckle. An elaborate cast copper alloy buckle. The frame is square and has a narrowed bar. The bar is oval in cross-section. The frame is formed by two 'L' shaped animals. Both have a small oval knop that sits on the junction of the bar and the frame, causing it look slightly faceted. Both ovals are decorated with a double-lined cross. The other end of the 'L' shapes terminate with two large fluted animal heads. The heads are in the form of a dog or hound with two large ears, incised eyes and bell-shaped nose. The nose is decorated with a small slit on either side. The neck is decorated with a triangle of transverse lines. There is a small circular-sectioned bar between the two animal heads with an inward globular headed prong in the centre. Circa AD 900-1100. 38mm x 37mm x 5mm, 19.1g.

Recorded on the PAS database as LIN-8871C3.
